Medical Office Building - SMOC
PF&A collaborated with the local company, Sports Medicine Orthopaedic Center, Inc. (SMOC), on their new 27,000 SF outpatient care facility. The goal of the project was to reinvent the patient care model. The focus on technology and transparency of systems capture the inherent energy of the building spaces and compliment the functions in the physical therapy program.
The building breaks from the traditional healthcare model by incorporating bold colors, super graphics, varying spatial volumes, and dynamic lighting patterns. All of these elements create a cohesive tapestry that embodies the energy, movement, and strengthening exercises of physical therapy.
Modernization and technology are showcased inside and outside of the facility. Dynamically changing colored LEDs light up the physical therapy space at night. The atrium is filled with a mural of iconic imagery. The atrium volume creates the sense of a sports stadium celebratory experience. The waiting area is open, spacious, and filled with natural light and creates a calming waiting experience. The central drum serves as the imaging core and provides a distinct wayfinding landmark. The exam rooms are organized into pods using color and an alphanumeric system. Private staff charting spaces are conveniently adjacent to each pod and filled with natural light.
