The project consisted of many facets including converting Six East from administrative space to a nursing unit and the renovation and reconfiguration of five nursing units: Two East, Two West, Four West, Five East, and Five West. The project also relocated the dialysis unit to Five East, and chemotherapy was upgraded. In addition, the core area and elevator lobbies received new finishes. These renovations and modifications provided a more functional and pleasant environment for patients, staff, and visitors. All nursing units received new nurse stations based on the Six West design already in service. The new nurse's station included a reception counter, chart storage, transcription area, multipurpose room, medication room, staff lounge, and staff lavatory. A nourishment station, clean utility room, and storage space was also provided in close proximity to the nurse's station. Modifications to the prototype design were based on direct feedback from physicians, nursing supervisors, nursing staff, and administrative personnel. Of particular note is an expanded charting area in lieu of the conference room provided on Six East. In addition to the nurse's stations, three enlarged patient rooms were provided for handicapped accessibility. One of these rooms serves as a negative pressure isolation room. The patient rooms and patient lavatories received new finishes, vanities, wardrobes, and headwall units. The mechanical system was also reworked and a four-pipe system was provided with new fan coils throughout each unit.
