The 7,282 square foot Advanced Imaging Center started out as a concept to eliminate the typical sterile waiting atmosphere many outpatient facilities have and instead create an MRI and CT center in an environment that would reduce or eliminate wait time. When waiting is unavoidable, patients can enjoy an environment that is esthetically and tangibly engaging. This environment includes a Cyber Center with custom media chairs for Internet Access and jacks for laptop connections, a "living room" which has cable TV and video games, a reading area with a variety of short story books and picture books, a coffee counter offering flavored coffees daily and a Zero Gravity Chair providing comfort for back patients when standing or sitting is nearly impossible. Walk-in patients who have to wait for the next available time slot are treated to a call back pager and coupons to nearby stores so they can shop in lieu of waiting. The term 'Waiting Room' has been replaced by 'Starboard Lounge' to represent the overall concept of accommodating service. The term ties in with the intense nautical setting of the community. Wave designs appear within the 'Starboard Lounge' and CT room by using USG's Compasso Ceilings. Waves and basket weave patterns were incorporated into fabrics, furniture accents and wall sconces. Other features used in the design solution include aluminum accents, blonde woods, earth tones, specialty glass, and accent lighting. The 'Starboard Lounge' design has encouraged patients to interact with one another, and has even provided such a peaceful environment, patients have been known to fall asleep while reclining in the Zero Gravity Chair.
