Eastern Virginia Medical School required this project reestablish the school as the leader in vitro medicine. In the early eighties, when the Jones Institute's revolutionary efforts resulted in the birth of the first child in the U.S. by in vitro fertilization, physicians used laboratory and surgical facilities at a nearby hospital. Now, with the new state-of-the-art outpatient surgical center and in vitro fertilization laboratory, design by Paul Finch & Associates, P.C., EVMS can provide an ultra-clean environment for in vitro fertilization procedures. The new clinic is organized as a stand-alone facility encompassing collection, preparation, fertilization, and patient recovery.
