Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital

Serving the citizens of Norfolk and Hampton Roads for over 125 years, Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital provides a continuum of patient care ranging from long-term acute care hospital services to skilled and intermediate nursing care, and physical, occupational, and speech therapies. When Lake Taylor was looking to update their Recreation Area, PF&A Design was contracted to provide full professional Architectural and Interior Design services for their new project.

This renovated and expanded gathering area serves as a retreat and can accommodate individuals as well as intimate group activities. The approximately 4,115 square foot space located on the first floor of the hospital houses a lounge area, recreation sun-room, workout area, beauty/barber shop, offices, toilets, plenty of added storage, and a gorgeous, fully modernized kitchen.

Designed with floor to ceiling glass on three perimeter walls, a strong connection to nature is emphasized providing views to the nearby lake.  An updated patio/courtyard offers an outdoor respite area. A ramp from the patio, convenient and easily accessible to all, leads to a gazebo by the lake.

Everything is designed for the comfort and convenience of the patients.  PF&A created a pleasing space with clean lines, simple geometry, neutral and complimentary colors, and soft forms that delivers an elegant contemporary style. The picturesque waterfront, spacious yet cozy interiors, and advanced facilities create a positive ambience that is soothing to the eyes and mind and conducive to the well-being of the patients.
