Strelitz Diabetes Center - EVMS
This project is a complete gut and renovation of a 2-story, 47,000 square foot 1960’s era building. The structure has been renovated with a new high tech image for both the interior and exterior. A new entrance and main lobby were designed with contemporary flair.
The interior architecture encompasses a better flow for the research clinics, labs and administrative suites. The foul smell, poor acoustics and aesthetics of the space were corrected throughout. Mildew which was present in the building was cleaned, a new HVAC system and mildew-resistant drywall were installed.
The new building envelope works as a sound barrier and has increased energy performance using LEED criteria. The design features sustainable elements throughout including the following: thermal resistance, acoustics, day-lighting, low VOC, and use of recycled content.
