VCU Health New Kent Emergency Center
Located on seven acres at the corner of Pocahontas Trail and Route 60 in New Kent County, Virginia, the free-standing one-story 17,332-square-foot VCU Health New Kent Emergency Center, when completed, will offer around-the-clock emergency physicians, emergency-trained registered nurses, and laboratory services.
With the nearest hospital more than thirty-minutes away, the new facility isn’t just about how VCU Health is constructing a new state-of-the-art building, but how the new facility addresses the need for easy accessibility to healthcare in New Kent County and the surrounding areas.
Offering the full spectrum of emergency care, it features 12 treatment rooms, a helipad for patient transport, along with advanced imaging technology including CT scans, digital X-rays and ultrasounds.
The building’s exterior architecture draws its influence from the surrounding woodlands. Materials include a combination of wood laminate paneling, tan colored brick, and terracotta-like metal panels for aesthetic harmony. All sides of the building have aluminum-framed windows with insulating low-e glass to provide nature views and help bring in the natural daylight.
With a tall drive-up canopy, the Emergency Department entrance is striking yet not imposing. It is enhanced with a Glu-lam overhead trellis which helps in creating a welcoming approach. A second entry provides easy access to the Imaging Department for out-patients.
We are thrilled about this project! In addition to providing the long-awaited quality patient care to people who otherwise would travel further, the new facility will also support future additional services and economic growth within New Kent County.
